Krabi's Best-Kept Secrets
Krabi has long been celebrated for its dramatic limestone karsts, crystal-clear Andaman waters, and world-class beaches. But beneath the surface of the popular tourist trail lies a layer of extraordinary experiences that only locals — and those lucky enough to travel with a trusted local guide — ever discover.
After 25+ years of exploring every corner of this remarkable province, Nannaphat Chanakul of Krabi Journey Bliss shares her five all-time favourite hidden gems.
1. The Secret Mangrove Tunnels of Ao Thalane
While most visitors know about mangrove kayaking, few explore the hidden tunnel network at the northern end of Ao Thalane bay. At low tide, narrow passages carved through ancient mangrove roots reveal a magical, cathedral-like green world. The silence here is profound — the only sounds are birdsong and the gentle lap of water against your kayak. We limit group sizes to 2 boats maximum to preserve this sanctuary.
2. Khao Ngon Nak (Dragon Crest Mountain)
This challenging jungle trek — roughly 4km each way through pristine rainforest — rewards hikers with a summit view that rivals anything on Krabi's bucket list, yet sees only a fraction of the crowds. On a clear morning, you can see all the way to Phi Phi Island. The trail starts near Ao Nang and takes approximately 3–4 hours return. Best attempted early morning with an experienced guide.
3. The Meditation Caves of Tiger Cave Temple
Most visitors climb the famous 1,237 steps of Tiger Cave Temple for the panoramic view. But below the summit, a network of meditation caves used by monks for centuries remains largely unexplored by tourists. With respectful guidance, visiting these sacred spaces offers a rare window into southern Thai Buddhist practice that no travel blog can fully capture.
4. Hua Hin Beach — Krabi's Secret Sunset Shore
Not the famous resort town — Krabi has its own Hua Hin Beach, a pristine 2km stretch near Nuea Khlong district that locals keep firmly to themselves. Accessible only by a 15-minute walk through rubber plantations, the beach faces west for spectacular sunsets. Zero vendors, zero crowds — just turquoise water and the sound of the sea.
5. The Fishing Community of Koh Pu
A tiny island 20 minutes by longtail from Ao Nang, Koh Pu is home to a traditional fishing community that has harvested Krabi's seas for generations. On a private longtail boat tour with us, you can visit the floating village, watch crab traps being hauled, taste the freshest seafood imaginable, and support the local economy directly.
How to Experience These Hidden Gems
All five of these experiences can be arranged through Krabi Journey Bliss as private, fully customized day trips. We never take large groups to these locations — maintaining their magic is our responsibility as stewards of Krabi.
